You're right. 2011 is different than the 2012+ shifters. This is what I found.

1 - With a small flat screw driver, insert it between the existing buttons and the plastic housing, pry-up and pop-out the existing buttons.

2 - Holding the Paddles upright, insert the Top pin inside the housing and using the same flat screw driver, insert it between the housing and right next to the Paddle Shifter's bottom pin by pushing away the plastic housing to allow it to enter easily without scratching or damaging the plastic.

3 - Try activating the Paddle Shifters to make sure they are well positioned and engage the shifts.

4 - Repeat the same process above on the Right hand side and you're all set !

Please avoid removing them frequently to avoid damaging the plastic housing.
