This is actually something they need to fix. Especially on this car. 30 yrs from now, the SS is going to be a collector car and very rare.
Watch all those shows on the Velocity channel where they restore 30+ yr old cars, the VIN is the ABSOLUTE final word.
If the owner kept it for decades and kept it mint, its value will be worth lower because they will think it was repainted and no records show GM painted it red.
