I'm curious why you would expect a "GM engineer" to say anything different than what he said? Of course that was his response, He works for GM and isn't going to stray from their maintenance recommendations or cause alarm...

I took my blower off after 4,400 total miles on the car. 4,000 of those with a Catch Can. These were relatively hard miles with 200 1/4 mile passes and the can emptied every race weekend. Got about 2/3 of a court of oil total so far out of the can.

The blower, runners and valves were spotless! Maybe the catch can made all the difference or it didn't help at all but it CERTAINLY didn't hurt the car and was money well spent IMO.
