Those pictures almost look like the same engine before and after a cleaning. I doubt that catch can engines are that clean. I've seen other posts of catch/non-catch can engines and while they show a difference it is not that dramatic. I don't have one but am not for or against. Whenever you can keep your throttle body, intake and valves cleaner that is a good thing. I guess the real argument is how much are they really helping. The amount caught in the can is most likely not the amount that is deposited in your intake. Most of it probably finds it's way into the cylinder and is burned off. I have noticed many dealers offering what they call an upper induction cleaning for 149.95. I'm not sure if this is because they have been seeing problems or just thought of another way to gouge people for un-needed services. I had one done on my wife's 2002 cavalier with 90k on it and all they did was disconnect the throttle body air intake and pour some cleaner into the throttle body while another guy reved up the engine. Some cleaning. I can do that for 10 bucks.
