I'm with dragon on this one. And this particular comment stuck out to me. Perhaps the change
was necessary? Perhaps the change allowed them to reinforce the area behind the bumper, or make it thicker, and this was the only way they could meet bumper regulations (5 mph? 10 mph? Not sure what the current speed rating is) in America? Also, there are a LOT of people who expressed that they wanted something, anything, to differentiate the V8 from the V6. This is certainly something somewhat like that. Personally, I like the new bumper. But I don't see why that (or somebody not liking the new bumper) would have had any effect on the team's decision to use it.
