You should never wipe your MAF sensor, the wires are delicate and you can damage them, soak it with MAF cleaner and let it dry before reinstalling it. The Throttle body should not go completely closed. The engine needs to get some air to start and idle.
It almost sounds like a low voltage issue. Something could be dragging your voltage down.

good info there thanks. I am leaning towards the gas pedal sensor based on what Ahmed said and what I have found with my searches. The question remains, assuming it will be the pedal sensor, would it have failed anyway. The VTC does directly connect into it. does a constant higher voltage short out the sensor, should not, but if defective to start perhaps it speeds up the process.
