No, the COPO or the ZL1 was the baddest thing you could have in 1969 and the SS was not a midclass Camaro, it was the performance option trim package and you could get any engine size you wanted in that configuration, hence it was considered the top of the line trim package. You are right about the Z28 later, it was a name plate only and in the fourth gen, what did they make SS's out of? That is right, Z28's. So that tells me that the SS is the top model and if all the other cars have a top model of an SS with A high performance engine, then why would they confuse the issue by having an SS model in the Camaro that was not the top dog? I guess we will have to wait and see!
