Unlike the 4th gen, there isn't a lot of low hanging fruit for weight reduction on the 5th gen and still retain the creature comforts. It's just a big-boned car. Look at what it took for GM to reduce weight on the Z/28 and you can see how hard it is lower the weight. Imo the cheapest and easiest is rear seats, battery, the tire inflator and trunk insulation and panels. However, road noise and exhaust sound is greatly increased if you go that route. Also, if you search here, there is an older thread on weight reduction in one of the general sections.
