Let me flip this around and give an alternate example:

Every McDonald's in America except for I believe the original and the ones in Disney are owned by private individuals who've bought franchise rights. They then buy product from McDonald's corp and pay into the franchise pool and in exchange they get advertising and some other stuff. If you go into McDonalds and you get sick off a chicken mcnugget, are you going to selectively only choose McDonald's that are owned by other franchise owners or are you going to go to avoid McDonald's altogether? What if the contamination occured at the restaurant side and not the supply side?

Don't get into a fast food debate, it's just an analogy. The consumer doesn't give a rats ass if that was a supply or franchise error. The consumer is now going to BK. Now this example leaves out the chance to fix the error, and you're talking $5 vs $35,000. However, there are alot of cars to choose from right now- so if you feel burned, you're going elsewhere. Even if your anger is misplaced. And if BK doesn't cut it, there's in n out, stubbys, 5 guys, wendy's..... It's a competition rich environment.

I guarantee you there is some Exec VP saying this exact same thing but somehow the message doesn't always flow smoothly from the top to the bottom or there are barriers in place keeping it from happening.
