Is this common?

Hey everyone, I have a 2014 Summit White ZL1 that's been my DD since I bought it 16 months ago. Went through the tires in 19000 miles. Did a lot of research, visited a lot of places and found a guy at the local Good Guys who had been putting tires on for 18 years and also said he did a lot of high end cars so and said he would be ultra careful changing mine. However, I got home and found this on the right front. There is a smaller, but similar nick on the left front. I'm not going psycho about it and I'm not going to call the place and demand anything, I just want to know if it's been your experience that your rims get damaged, even a little bit? I don't know what to do next time. I won't be going back, but he explained in detail how he would tape the entire rim to protect it and it would be flawless. Is there anything special you tell your guys when they change tires to protect the rims? Is this just part of the deal of owning this car? I keep my cars as flawless as I possibly can. The damage is actually not that big, but now that I know its there it sticks out like a sore thumb.
