I have an excellent driving record over the last 25 years, ya I have been pulled over on occasion, but I think since I DO have such a good record the cops usually let me go with a warning, but then again I dont drive like a madman.....
couple months ago I was riding right alongside a cop and all of a sudden I see him hit his brakes and made an immediate stop, only to look over and realize that somebody just stepped into a crosswalk, I obviously didn't see the person till it was too late and I just cruised through the crosswalk.......so the cop got right behind me and pulled me over, I explained that I really didn't see the pedestrian until it was too late, he basically said that when he sees things like that happen they HAVE to pull people over, and he too told me that he didn't see the person in the road till last second and that he understood why I didn't see either. He told me that normally he tickets when he sees people do that but he also mentioned that since I have a really clean driving record, he would just give me a warning, and that he says it was an honest mistake on my behalf.
I was really surprised too because here in Vegas there have been so many deaths from people being hit while in the crosswalks, and I swore I was going to get a ticket, so did my wife who was driving right behind me......but she stopped for the pedestrian.....
Having a good driving record pays off, just try to get it so you can pay the fine and not have it go on your record. I had a speeding ticket about 5 years ago, but I just plead guilty and paid the fine and it was dropped from my record and no points were added...
PS: If you are ever in Vegas be very careful, folks here just dont even stop while they are walking, they just dart right out into the road, especially when they know they are in the crosswalk, but if they are not using the crosswalk then it's fair game and if they are hit then it is their fault, bit when they are in an official crosswalk then you had better stop.
