Story 1. Very good friend at the ripe old age of 30 had a Spinal Stroke which paralyzed him from neck down initially. After a few years of therapy he was finally able to drive his car again. Fast forward 10 years later and he can no longer drive stick so his once again dream car has to go simple because it's a manual.

Story 2. This one is personal as I was diagnosed with cancer (2nd time) and after my 3rd round of Chemotherapy I was no longer able to drive my car because of the wonderful side effects. The neuropathy in my feet was so painful that I couldn't hold the clutch pedal down. So my car sat from August of 2012 till the end of summer 2013. When I finally got back in the car in 13 it was for short drives only as it still sucked to drive the car. Finally in 14 my feet are better (not back to normal) and I can drive the car again.

So you never know what life is going to toss your way so if someone wants an automatic 1le, make suggestions on what it may take to do the conversion not how you feel about stick vs auto it's not the question that was asked.

I think most people will cut others a lot of slack in such cases - if there's at least a hint that physical limitations are involved. But in the absence of such information (and particularly in this 1LE forum), the more usual assumption is that somebody is trying to make a dragstrip hero out of a car that was specifically intended for those who like corners over straight lines (which doesn't go over so well).

If you knew the history of my knees without knowing anything else about me, I'm pretty sure you'd make an incorrect assumption about what transmission type I wouldn't choose to drive. Works both ways.
