It's your friends fault, sad to say. However, I'm not going to throw to much flak at the guy. He assumed the battery would be set up the same, since he gave them the M/M/Y, but he should have double checked something this important.
On a side note, I have learned that all the major Auto Parts store have everything listed on line. Prior to going in, I always look it up myself, get their part number and sku, and use that at the counter. Thus far, I have never been given the wrong part doing it that way.
