You should always ask them how long it will take BEFORE you agree to let them work on it. Make sure they know exactly when you will need the car finished.
I recently had headers installed and got a custom dyno tune. When I called and set up the service, I told them I needed it finished in one day. They made sure to schedule me on a day when they could complete the entire service. I arrived at 10am, dropped off the car, then returned at 4pm and picked it up.
