With these two cars, Chevy round the latest round with the 16 models. But Ford won the round before that. I think as pony/muscle car fans, we all win right now because of the companies competing. If you are not a loyalist (didn't read your whole post sorry), get the Mustang or you will never be truly happy.

My dad has owned and operated a engine machine shop for close to 40 years. He's always been a GM guy and has always preferred GM engines with his line of work. My grandfather was a GM guy before him. Every company can turn out its share of bad vehicles that sours a person away from that brand. I'm sure Ford and Dodge make great vehicles, but I was born and raised GM.
Even being a hardcore GM guy I love the vintage Hemi engines and like the Mopar Road Runners, Coronets, Challengers, Chargers, and Cuda's. I've never really cared for Fords other than the 30's coupes for street rod purposes.
I'm very involved in dirt track racing most everybody runs small block chevy's because of cost to build and the weight of the engine. I've seen guy run Fords and Mopar engines and win races, but dirt track racing is very dominated by GM with its 602 and 604 crate engines. When the track goes slick they're pretty hard to beat.
Buy whatever makes you happy.
