It's a 2003 Mach 1 (it's a 32 valve DOHC, not 16 valve SOHC like the GT) with a Procharger making 448 rwhp. Only 27k miles. I don't have to sell it or anything, it's running great but lately I've had thoughts about just getting something newer.

I LOVE my Mach 1, it's a beast but it's really at about it's safe limit without digging into the motor and it's just not worth it on a 12 year old car. Both the new 'stang and Camaro motors have so much more potential than the old 4.6. Even as it stands, pushing this much power through it makes me nervous every time I get on it. I've got an awesome tune, and it's probably going to last a long time but it's still hard not to worry about a rod ventilating my block.

So I guess the reason I'm here is to see if I can be swayed over to the DARK SIDE instead of getting another Mustang. Obviously you guys prefer Chevy. What is it about the 5th gen Camaro that makes you guys take it over the Mustang 5.0? As far as looks go, they're about a wash for me. I like 'em both.
My girlfriend has a 2013 Mustang V6 Premium w/PP. I have a 2013 Camaro 2SS.

They are very different cars. Mustangs are much more affordable than Camaros are in seemingly every generation. The Mustang is more "entry level," if you will. The materials are cheaper, the cars are smaller, the suspension is less advanced. They're also a lot cheaper to get options than Camaros. You can pick up a Mustang V6 Premium with the pony package with leather interior, LED accents, premium wheels and Microsoft Sync for less than a cloth interior Camaro 1LS. That's why we went Mustang for her - Camaro's were just too expensive for what you got. If you don't have the money, you'll probably be happier in a Mustang because you get more bang for your buck. My girlfriend got a 2013 Mustang V6 Premium w/PP with every conceivable option - Sync, BT, heated seats, leather, LED cupholders, sideview mirror projectors and more for $16,900 with 13,000 miles on the OD. You can't get a base 1LS Camaro on steelies without a single option for that. There is much more value in a Mustang than in a Camaro. It was a no brainer for her - she got a vastly superior car for the money, and I'd go Mustang ALL THE WAY in that scenario.

The same thing goes for the GT's. You can get a better equipped GT for less money than a Camaro. If all you're doing is driving back and forth to work and you want a nice car with some power and lots of creature comforts, the Mustang does it for less money than the Camaro. For the cost of a stripped down Camaro SS with no options, you can get a nicely outfitted Mustang with leather interior and lots of bells and whistles.

When it comes to fully optioned cars, the Camaro has a much better build quality than the Mustang. The 2SS Camaro has much more high quality materials than the comparatively outfitted GT Mustang. The leather seats are much nicer leather, the dash quality is better, the infotainment system is better, the ride quality is better, it handles better - an old 5th Gen 1LE already outperforms the newer 6th Gen Mustang and the 6th Gen Camaro will just flat out embarrass the Mustang - Ford has a lot to learn about IRS and GM is way ahead of the curve in terms of raw performance. As for future modability, the Camaro has a far greater ceiling. It is so easy to modify an LS3 or LT1 pushrod motor compared to a Coyote. No one tears into Coyote's because they're just too expensive. The Coyote weighs more, is physically larger, is more expensive to mod, makes less or equal power and much less torque - both the LS3 and LT1 motors are much better motors.

As for drivetrains, the GT has the terrible Getrag transmission. The TR6060 offered in the SS, while not the best "behaved" tranny in terms of smoothness, is far stronger, more reliable and has stood the test of time. The drivetrain of the Camaro is just better in every way.

It all comes down to what you want. Dollar for dollar, you can get a better Mustang than a better Camaro if your goal is to keep it stock and daily drive it. If your goal is fully modding the car and interior quality, you'd better fit into a Camaro. It's your call.
