I can't remember if this issue extends past the 2010's, but I thought it did. it is for both L99 & LS3. Happens to stock and heavily modded cars. Part is covered under the 5 yr/100,000 mile warranty; after that it is out-of-pocket. I also seriously doubt i would have been covered with all my mods even though they had nothing to do with oil pump failure (pressure relief valve was stuck open).
If you do any engine mods, and your already in there, definitely replace stock GM oil pump with a Melling equivalent. Changing out a working oil pump is a tough decision, and kinda costly. it is basically all labor cost, part is only couple hundred bucks.
