In simple terms the "Dexos" standard is a set of minimum specs that GM set for worldwide use. In order to display the "Dexos1" seal on their oil an oil mfg must pay GM a royalty fee to put the label on their oil container. Amsoil Signature Series oil meets or exceeds the Dexos1 standard they just choose not to pay the royalty to GM.
