Dealer is half right. A 2014/15 SS hood will NOT fit 2013 and back LS/LT/SS as straight up bolt on (or even a 2014/15 V6 model). You need the 2014/15 front fascia too to make it work, or some body work to your front fascia to match the wider cowl lines. The dimensions will physically allow you to bolt up any 5th gen hood to any 5th gen car, but the hood lines may not line up depending on the hood and fascia.
The ZL1 hood lines match up to a ZL1 front end. That's it. You would need to match your front fascia hood lines to make it look 100% correct no matter which 5th gen you put it on. It's narrower than a 2014/15 SS 5th gen hood line, but wider than all the others. Seems to land right in the middle somewhere.
I believe, but cannot prove, the only 2014/15 hood that works on earlier 5th gens with no hood line matching is the V6 hood. I believe it's the same exact hood lines as the non-ZL1 2013 and back. I measured a V6 hood vs. a 2013 SS sitting next to it at the dealership with my phone app ruler. So it seemed to measure up, but it was just a quick check, so not official.
