Maybe this has been done but I've never seen it. I have always thought that there needs to be something that differentiates a HARD stop (brake) from a normal stop. As in, when you really brake hard, as in a panic, the brake lights go stroboscopic, letting the driver behind you know that this car is coming to a halt, quick!
Something similar to your system coupled with some kind of pedal or line pressure sensing switch could accomplish it. Not sure if or when the DOT would need to be involved because there'd be this whole education / approval process, I believe. Anyway, there's an idea, run with it. Great job.
