Oh, a couple things I forgot to mention about the RI inspections...
- Not required on brand new cars. I can't remember if you have to do it after one or after two years.
- Then it's every two years. It used to be yearly but when they added the emissions testing, the inspection became rather expensive -- $39 (and, as in Texas, is separate from registration fees and taxes and such).
- The tailpipe emissions test is done on a "rolling drums dyno type device" as in Texas.
- Yup, tinted windows and front plates are checked too
- Colored stickers, different color every year with a number for the month, are placed in the bottom passenger side of the windshield.
