Yes black exhaust is usually an indication of it running rich. That sometimes isn't necessarily a good thing, depending on how rich its running. Still its nto the greatest advice to give someone. I would have the AFR checked, and retuned if needed.

Switching to E85 will require you to spend a good amount of money. If your looking to get more power out of the car, E85 is a great way to do it. However there is no real reason based on your previous threads, for someone who is thinking of changing pulleys, to get less power, switching to E85 is going in the opposite direction.
