I don't think that will affect the engine development, ALL car makers are always looking for the next best engine, to my eyes they are just delaying the next weight class change and/or general overall change over, but lets face it, the GM truck platforms are among if not the best general purpose utility platforms in the world, so I feel that they don't need to be messing with perfection anytime soon, Ford and Toyota have a long way to catch up, and as for Honda and Nissan, well, they never even stood a chance in the Real truck market
