I don't think it was an actual oil pump problem but rather an issue of debris remaining in the block after machining. The debris was blocking the pick up tube and causing the the pumps to fail or something like that.
So unless the machining has improved which I don't believe has been confirmed it could very well plague all of our V8 cars especially the LS3's.
