When GM denied the repair, they returned the car broken, when they were the party who finished off the engine with improper diagnosis methods. By running the engine, they are very much at fault.

The tech goes, oil issue, let me check that out. I'll drive it around the block and see. Get's back, yeah the car needs a motor, I barely made it back!
