So at 486 miles, the Z/28 had its first oil change today. The mechanic was by far the most anal retentive individual I have ever seen. He treated the car the same way any of us would treat our own cars. Getting it on the lift was an undertaking. The clearance was less than 1/4". Once up, he took the time to remove the baffle instead of trying to drain everything with it still on.

They had never had a Z/28 in their shop, many Z06's and ZL1's, but no Z/28's. Everyone came by to look at it and inspect it, ask questions.

He took a phenomenal amount of time to do the oil change and I appreciated his diligence in making sure nothing was damaged or rushed. So what do you do when you have someone who's obviously a 'car guy' and they've taken such great care of your Z/28? You offer to let them take it for a spin. He refused, unable to just take a a customer's car but thanked me for the offer. I went to see the service advisor and expressed a concern with a slight vibration that I wanted the mechanic to verify and so he insisted we take the car out. "What's this vibration?" he asked. I responded that it was slight but somewhere between 125-130 mph. He laughed. I encouraged him to 'test' it properly, which he did.

After the test drive he could not stop raving about how different it was to Z06's and ZL1's. The constant pull, the brakes, etc. He truly appreciated what a Z/28 is all about. When we got back the question came up "What was the vibration?" We looked at each other and said, "ugh, just different with the Michelin's but all's good." He came back and shook my hand before I left telling me I had made hi grin from ear to ear. It does to all of us....

I was terrified about trying to find a mechanic who would take good care of my Z/28 - I found one in a small town and look forward to going back. Who would have thought that an oil change could be so much fun??
You made that guy's week, thanks for the great share.

Loving all these pics, such a beautiful car.
