Anyway, you are right that Cadillac wanting exclusive engines doesn't mean nothing gets shared. I'm sure that there will still be quite a few GM powertrain engines that are outright shared, and others that will probably variants that get a few tweaks to fit Cadillac. But I would imagine that a 'flagship engine' (as this 4.2L would seem to be) is probably the best candidate to share not share anything with a lowly Chevy.
