I'm curious to see how GM responds myself. Camaro SS is just barely beating the gas guzzler demon right now so the old strategy of throwing a bigger cam or a couple more cubes into the mix obviously wont be on the table. And while a fifth gen small-block has been in the rumor mill for some time now we know that engine wont be ready for the 2011MY and it seems unlikely for 2012. That means GM will have to answer with the LS3 or a derivative thereof, if they answer at all on the V8 hp front anytime soon. If they do answer, it will require some real thought this time 'round so things could get interesting.
As for the V6 Camaro, the LLT is really a relatively new beast so we really don't know what that mill has left in reserves. If I'm not mistaken the basic design can be taken out to 4.0L, but that seems likely to cost the general a mpg or two so I am unsure they will want to go that route. Of course, if the General happened to be making some tweaks in the name of fuel economy anyway...something which is rumored to be happening since that engine is oh so close to 30mpg....GM could potentially find a way to bump up the cubes and offset any penalty in fuel economy with those tweaks and find their power increase without paying a penalty at the pump. Of course, that would mean giving up on the magical 30mpg mark...everything is a trade off.
Good times.
