Here's a very import thing to learn. To completely turn off traction control and all other computer assists, hold the TC button for up to 10 seconds. You'll know it's off when a couple lights turn on, on the dash. Now you'll be able to do a proper burnout if you ever want to.

This is important because if you simply press it once, it turns on track mode. Press it again and it claims it turns off traction control. But, it's only partially turned off and you will just look like a fool.

Congrats again and best of luck with the sexy new 1LE!!
Sorry but your instructions above have some errors.
Traction Control functions work as follows:

1. First press of the traction control button turns off traction control (i.e. Will allow the rear wheels to spin for burnouts without interfering). Stabilitrak remains fully active at normal sensitivity.

2. Press/release button once, then press/release button again within a few seconds of each other and this activates competitive driving mode. Competitive driving mode disables traction control, reduces the sensitivity of the Stabilitrak system to allow more vehicle rotation before interfering, and it changes the electric power steering calibration to provide a "heavier" feel to it (less assist).

3. Press/hold for 8 seconds will again disable traction control but will then also completely disable Stabilitrak. Power steering assist will also be reduced like it is in competitive mode.

Unless you are a really experienced driver competitive mode gives you more than enough freedom to get into trouble with at least a slight chance that the computer might be able to save you. I have spun out on several occasions during autocross while driving in competitive mode.
