We all worked hard and pulled together the gift bags by using our contacts from Auto stores, Racing Parts suppliers, Race tracks, Suppliers, and friends. And of course called in a huge favor from GM that really made a huge difference by getting the hats. The Denver Police Department also sent the Drag team and their Corvette to lead us across town. The folks at the Hospital were great and broke us into three groups and toured us thru the different floors where we had a chance to visit with parents and kids. Some kids were in isolation so we left bags for when they get better. Funny story about one little boy. He was up on the parking deck waiting for us when we arrived. We was told that he had been pestering the nurses all morning asking if we were there yet. Finally the nurse could not take it any longer and took him up to wait for us. He spent the entire day with us.. Great kid and a future Camaro Owner no doubt. There will never be another day that will duplicate the efforts of this day for us that were in attendance. For the clubs that wish to do this in the future....It can be very simple. The kids love coloring and you can get online coloring books and have a few pages copied at Kinkos. Ask for a discount because of the event and you will probably get one. Crayons were ordered right from Crayola in the 4 packs like at resteraunts. 360 packs for something like 90 bucks. Stickers can be from many different sources. Police Depts, Fire Depts, auto parts and racing shops. But what the kids really enjoyed was a visit and a smiling face. Fact is that parents get worn down with the stress of having thier child sick and a new smiling face made all of them forget their problems for a few hours. Then the cars. It gave everyone from staff to patients something to do for a few hours. I have a few pics on my phone I will download and post as well.
Kudos to Don for spearheading this whole event. Larry
Larry,
You and your crew did an awesome job. Hopefully alot more people will get together and do this, if I am correct pretty much every state has a children's hospital. Thanks to all the sponsors your returns will be many and worth every penny you spent. John
