I removed mine because the shorty headers that were on the car when I bought it required the steering shaft to be removed to remove them. It's one bolt and you can slide the shaft up towards the steering wheel. If you do remove the shaft make sure your steering wheel is pointed straight and not cocked at all. Otherwise it can be a pain to get back together.
