Whatever, I don't feel like wasting time in pointless debate. New rollover standards will start being phased in for 2012, but wont be required until 2016 as reported by the IIHS.

Quote:
New federal requirements: In April the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ended numerous delays by unveiling a new rule that doubles the current roof strength requirement (strength-to-weight ratio of 1.5) for vehicles with weight ratings up to 6,000 pounds. Roofs on vehicles with weight ratings 6,000 to 10,000 pounds will be required to withstand a force equal to 1.5 times their unloaded weight. Another requirement is that roofs maintain sufficient headroom during testing. For the first time, the government also will require the same performance on both sides of the roof when tested sequentially. Phase-in begins in September 2012, and all vehicles must comply by September 2016.
you can see it yourself at this link. http://www.iihs.org/news/rss/pr082009.html

But since Ford began conducting rollover tests on their own accord years ago I'm going out on a limb and saying Mustang may well meet these standards already, particularly since the new standards require a double sided score of 2.5 times the vehicle weight and Mustang already scores a single sided score of 2.8 times vehicle weight.

As for new side impact protection rules you can read about those here or on any of a thousand other sites....

There is no new mandated equipment, just new standards to meet, and since the Mustang already has a aide impact, head protection system in place in the front and scores extremely well in side impact testing the new standards seem unlikely to change much here. The only thing missing is a rear head airbag which technically isn't actually required, again the car only has to meet the new standards and have some kind of 'system' in place, but which we will probably get anyway. So, assuming Ford does add two rear head airbags, exactly how much do you expect these to weigh? Given your previous posts I can only assume that you believe they will add a great deal.
