First Track Day! WOW!!!

Took the Z28 to an open lap day at Pueblo Motorsports Park. Not a bad turn out. I think there were 16 cars and over 30 bikes that started. Two GT4's, C5 z06 Track set up, Gen5 ZL1, and an assortment of others.

First... WOW... this car is basically perfect bone stock. I am amazed at how well it did right off the showroom floor. I will be changing the brake fluid and going to the track alignment just because I want to.

When I first got there 2 or 3 guys noticed the car and came to check it out. Most just thought it was a Camaro with some upgrades. The two GT4 cars new what it was.

but after the first session... new game...

Pretty much every other driver came to see that car as well as a lot of bikes. I had two guys tell me they had to come see the car when they saw it actually pull away from the GT4's in the straights. yep... I guess I actually pulled on them.

Next I had a group of 3 guys come over to ask all about the car. They had no idea what a Z28 was and thought a ZL1 was the top dog. One of them was in a lotus. Asked all about my line. How many years I had been driving, what was my best lap, and what all mods did I have on the car. He could not believe the brakes we stock. He tried several times to follow my lines but could not keep up. Was blown away by how fast the car was. Said I had him by 10 seconds.

My 1996 Z51 on R7's ran a 1:56. Nice warm day. This day was only about 60 and I ran 2 1:46's in the Z28. I am sure there is a more in the car. First day in the car, sport mode 3, 2nd time on that track, yes there is more in the car.

I knew 1 of the GT4's which makes this an even better day. He is an instructor for PCA and does a lot, a lot of driving events. Well for a few laps I could see him in my mirror. Never close enough to pass but he was there. I was in traffic and every time I would get behind someone he would clearly gain some ground. Well I decided to slow down and let him by so I could follow him for while. Thought it would be fun. First turn I was on his ass... I had to brake early to not hit him and get on the gas late cause he was in the way. He never pulled at all. Second turn again I was slower then usual. He was a little high and actually lost grip and slide off the track. I was lower and had plenty of power to hold the corner and blew past him on the inside. The Z28 held the corner better and with more speed then his GT4 that day. He was fine, just slide off and was right back on. Wreck two turns ahead of us ended the session.

I can not wait to play with more GT4's. I finally have a car that will corner, brake and accelerate with them. In the past they have always been better at something.

It is very possible the Z28 was the fastest car there that day. The 2nd GT4 was fun to pass but it was a new car. First day on track in that car so not fair to compare. Although it was my first day as well.

The down side of the day is the C5 Zo6 lost it on the first lap of the first session. Slid on a corner and nailed a wall. Destroyed the front end. 3rd session the ZL1 lost it and hit the tires. Nose came off and all air bags deployed. I did not get to play with either of them before this happened.

They are the reason I staid in track mode 3. The track mode was fighting me and does keep the car safer. I know I can pick up speed with a higher track mode.

I did slide around in the seat as others have. I am only 5'10" and 150lbs. I was sliding around and will be looking at options to fix that in a few months. Want to play more. I like the Trofeo tires but I am use to R7's. I cannot wait to get new R7's on this car.

The gas tank is way to small. I took 10 gallons extra knowing it was small and still did not have enough to make the 5th session. Im going to guess it takes about 8 gallons per 20 min session. I do not run out of gas in the Corvettes. Both of them can do 1 full day.

I have some footage from a go pro and will try to go over that today and get it online.

Thanks for reading.
