Arguably a non-BA system is easier as there is nothing to tap and no kit to purchase so long as you replace that POS head unit. Once that is done, installing a stereo will be identical to one of your old hot rods.
Dash kit + Head unit + RCAs + amp + speaker wires + speakers

Locally, the best person in your area is Ryan Autry with
Audio Innovations. Be aware of sticker shock though, they will likely push their own products. Hertz front components and rear 6x9's will set you back $1,200 alone. Rule of thumb is if you pay asking price for their components, installation is included (FREE).
Don't get sold snake oil by any retail shop, there is enough information in these forums that anyone with patience can DIY.
