The Z/28 moniker will only ever badge a NA platform and generally speaking, there isn't much farther one could take a "ZLE" except to be even more track focused with newer technology and wider creature comfort options. Think of the 911 model with 13 different 'platforms'. Track focused though, you are correct in that it is the best bang for the buck under $50k.
The Ford fan base support is warranted though, offering decades of special limited edition serialized models, hype and supported sales, collectors go nuts. GM doesn't care because of profits, refuses to use proper VIN registration or much less use VIN serialization for most models. While they may offer a particular model in a limited open production run (date limited), anyone can purchase who wants one which of course devalues the vehicles.
