Each medium has its plus and minuses. I am a veteran of vinyl, and to be completely honest, I prefer this medium to most other music forms. Vinyl excels in percussion, horn and string reproduction, and its excellent with low frequency bass. Oxide tapes excel with low frequency bass and most of the notes produced in music...I find it almost as good as albums. Reel to Reel has been described as the best reproduction media.....but I'm not versed in them. Cassettes to me might have been the perfect media. Its great with new recordings, and its relatively quick and convenient (depends on the length of the album).

CDs took a little while to perfect, but at their best CDs were excellent with stereo separation, clarity, high frequency sounds, and they improved with low frequency sounds in the later years. CDs also last a long time....but they can develop errors....similar to records, like skips.

MP3s have limitations with volume, as I've seen it. With higher volume, I've found that MP3s distort music. They are super convenient in that you can record a massive amount of songs and albums in a file system. Good MP3 files, including the "lossless" formats, are almost parallel with CDs. I imagine that this system will also improve with time.
