This, when the internet was abuzz with the car selling NEW for near $50K. I think you were right in 2014 about the marketing - or lack of, for the car. It was obviously built for a pretty esoteric group of buyers that knew what they were getting.
I remember things like the, "FM radio and A/C are options" being bandied about more like you'd hear about navigation and cupholder appointments for a traditional car. While this was 'cool' to the initiated, it probably didn't help attract an uninitiated buyer on the periphery of performance car shopping.
Damn the torpedo's, just drive 'em and enjoy, I suppose.
