Yea, that makes sense. Once they get the car without the headers/CAI, if it is still throwing a CEL the diagnostic machine will reveal the tune.
By then, he has his ZL1 and the deal is done.

Oh man, that is awesome. Buying a heavily modded used car and knowing exactly what was done to it is a great thing. No guessing for when you want to do more to it or run into issues.
