IMHO, the term "wing" was always reserved for 1994 Hondas that have been given the Fast and Furious treatment.

A spoiler disrupts (spoils) the airflow between the roof and the rear of the car to prevent lift. Otherwise air flows from the trailing edge of the roof to the back of the car in a bee line. Leaving a hole under it and creating a low pressure area on the deck lid.
A wing provides downforce.
