No clutch is designed to "fail" from the factory. There are lots of things that can go wrong with a clutch system - most of it is either induced by heat from track-use/abuse, or user error in the form of not REALLY knowing how to drive stick (while many people can get a car with 3 pedals to move, in my experience, there are very few people who actually know the proper way to drive a manual).
Treat it correctly and a factory clutch will last you a quarter of a million miles or more. Abuse it, and it can go out in 10 miles.
