Sorry for the delay in getting back to you guys. Between race season and getting the new shop up and running, and doing research on this project has been an uphill struggle to say the least.
I posted a thread in the wheels and tires section under 12 bolt upgrade. We have been doing some market and mechanical research regaurding on which way we want to go with the upgrade. We have decided that a direct bolt in replacement 12 bolt center section to upgrade the IRS is going to be first and foremost. Solid axle is going to come later.
The major problem has been getting our hands on a housing to digitize the mounting points so that we can start building the core box for the housing. So if one of you guys has a spare or a camaro that is down I would be more than happy to pay the shipping to get my hands on one so that I can get one digitized and get the ball rolling. I will also offer the volunteer a deep discount on the housing once they are available.
tenative plans are for a nodular iron and a aluminum version of the cases. minimum 33 spline posi units/ chromoly stubs. We will be also looking to upgrade the axle shafts and outer stubs shortly thereafter. After we have the IRS nailed down we will proceed with a solid axle conversion.
Problem is with the solid axle the sub will need to be replaced along with the fuel tank and exhaust. Making it a difficult and expensive proposistion. This is better left to the body in white camaros or the more hardcore racers.
We are hoping to have a prototype and pricing by PRI. (Early December.)
Regaurds,
