I had to do a rebuild on mine.. Hurst sells a rebuild kit with all the o-rings and springs.
The way i ensured it was the line lock was I went to a back road, engaged the line lock and just gave moderate throttle. the car held for a second, then started creeping along and eventually rolled out like i was off the button.
I installed the rebuild kit and all was well.
