I have a hot dawg. I kept my 2-car garage about 50-55 the first month until I got the first power bill, which was $100 extra, on a typical $130 bill for heat and electric. I now set it about 40 unless I'm working in it. If it gets above 40 out, I set it 10 above the outside temp to keep it running and dry in the garage.

I found the digital thermostat I hooked up first to cause the heater to short-cycle at the lower temp settings. A really basic, old-school thermostat is best.
