When the car was first mod'd, were the lifters and lifter trays replaced? If not, root cause...higher lift cam, spring rates etc will wear the trays out letting the lifter rotate...that is the cause of the failure...99.9%...switching to a non-lifter basket style will fix it,,at a higher cost...so many peeps run the LS7(COPO anyone) that if it was a POS we would know it....

Sooooo...replace cam? Replace lifters and lifter basket at same time....for the cost of 2 head gaskets and the opportunity to replace the stock head bolts with ARP....THAT would be my piece of mind...put in LS9 head gaskets and never worry about liftin your head in N/A unless you spray the snot out of it...and then probably break a rod first...
