Most people don't really care what they're driving. They've got a few basic needs that are easily met, and there's no reason for them to drive something more specialized. If they've got extra money to blow, they buy what's marketed well. Are you seriously suggesting that they shouldn't buy FWD Impalas, Camrys, and Accords, and should buy muscle cars instead?

No thanks, I'd rather let the sheep be sheep, and I'll be a horsey or something...
what I said was that Americans are brainwashed into thinking that FWD is safer than RWD... its not... there's no proof to support the idea... in the age of stability management programs and anti-lock braking, a RWD Impala would be just as easy to keep under control in wet weather as a FWD Impala would be... the only thing that would be safer would be if it were available with AWD.

the only real reason to drive a FWD car is to get better gas mileage... and with Cylinder deactivation and dual mode hybrids working their way into the lineup, even this arguement is slowly working its way to the sideline... but at this moment in time, the FWD cars do get better mpg and that's really the only reason to own one... any other reason is just proving that mass marketing and propoganda can sell anything.

and no, I would not suggest that the masses buy a muscle car instead of a Camry, Accord or Impala... I would, however, suggest that they look at General Motors' full lineup and find something that suits them and their needs... rather than just saying, "well, the Camry has a five star rating in such and such's report, so I'm going to go buy that"... and this is why I called them "lemmings at the edge of a cliff"... at the edge of a rock that they're about to fall off of... and none the wiser of their situation.

you and I will always opt for something more specialized than the masses... we're enthusiasts on an enthusiast website... Fbodfather is an enthusiast as well... and having ridden with him in a red Pontiac rental car, I can honestly say that he's a specialty car lover, too... lol... so while rental fleets and cookie cutter neighborhoods will be full of FWD Impalas, my garage will be full of cars like these:
