If the engine is flooded you need to pickle it...Boats do this when sunk. Do not let the engine dry out until you can immediately pickle it.

As everyone else says, i think if you can rescue the core the other stuff you can do overtime -- lots of work, but i wouldn't do knee jerk reaction to a salvage yard...
