Since the car is a rental, chances are someone (many?) before you ran 87 octane in it.
Run the first tank of fuel until the low fuel light comes on then fill with 93 or 91 as available in your area. Then pull the fuses overnight to reset octane table, enjoy your new found power for the rest of your drive!
