My opinion is from years of trying to fix up performance vehicles, it's ALWAYS cheaper in the long run to buy the nicer car than it is to buy the cheaper car and try to play catch up on maintenance, the older the vehicle the more extreme this is. Think of restored cars for example. I don't fear mileage on cheap vehicles, but with this much invested, throw a few bucks out and get a fresher car. It will be worth more when you are done with it.
