I replaced my lower grill and it is a PITA.
I do not think it worth the effort and wear & tear on the components.
My suggestions would be the following:

1. Tape off the lower grill (do not tape it up).
2. Plastidip before track, then touch up after.
3. Road & track it as is, and just replace it when it gets too bad.
4. Fuggedaboudit.
