Actually, the LS3 is less than 50 pounds heavier than the Miata 4-banger. The big weight gain in that swap is the tranny, which throws up an additional 200 pounds over the Miata's unit. However, that weight is as low as it gets and dead center in the wheelbase.
You still end up with a sub 3000 pound 575 bhp LS3 monster.
